Madison County, NC Area Missions
Madison County, NC missions reaches out to the people of this rural Appalachian area. In connection with the grassroots ministry of the Community Housing Coalition, the Timothy Project addresses home repair and construction needs for deserving residents in Madison and adjoining mountain counties along the NC/TN border. The work is primarily home repair and construction and needs vary widely. There is always a shortage of skilled volunteers in carpentry, plumbing and electrical. All groups are welcome to participate and there are needs in painting, yard work, clean up and landscaping as well. We do, however, encourage groups considering this mission project to remember that the work can be intense work in a rural Appalachian setting and best served with groups with some prior mission experience. Groups are divided into teams and assigned according to skills and interests. Any construction materials are normally delivered to the home sites prior to the group’s arrival. You will have Timothy Project staff persons assigned to assist you but your group will be responsible to supervise their own work.

Dates, Location, Activities, and More
Mars Hill College is the host location for 2010. We will have four focused mission weeks—June 13-18, June 20-25, June 27-July 2 and July 4-9.. The typical mission week has a Sunday arrival and Friday departure. Many groups decide to make whitewater rafting a part of their week and we have a close working relationship with Nantahala Outdoor Center, named one of the great outfitters in the US. Let us know if you would like to consider this addition to your week and we will make arrangements for you. Lodging for the week will be in dorm rooms at the college, two persons per room. Breakfast and dinner will be in the college cafeteria. Lunch may be on your own ( some access to kitchen facilities is available) or we can make arrangements for a bag lunch for you at an additional cost. The evenings are opportunities for rest, reflection and fun. We typically meet together for devotionals, music and sharing Monday thru Wednesday evenings for one hour. You also have access to college amenities such as a fitness center and pool. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains surround you, asking you to explore them and this adds to the memory of your mission week.
